Cómo usar vitamina C potencia tu SPF

How to use vitamin C to boost your SPF

With the arrival of summer, the importance of applying and reapplying sunscreen becomes even more crucial. Plus, did you know that your daily skincare routine can further enhance its effectiveness? Vitamin C can act as a booster for your sunscreen and optimize your skin's protection.

In the age of social media, advice abounds on which products to use or avoid during summer vacation. Vitamin C is one of those ingredients that has generated constant debate: some claim it can't be combined with exfoliants (a false belief), while others argue it shouldn't be applied alongside retinol (another widespread myth). However, the reality is different: vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants in existence . In fact, experts recommend it as a staple component of your daily skincare routine, as it can combat many of the adverse effects of the sun. Daniel Jiménez, cosmetologist and technical director of Skin Generics, as well as CEO of BeLab Services, points out that vitamin C could be considered a booster for our SPF products.

Vitamin C, SPF enhancer

Many cosmetics and skincare experts are already affirming that vitamin C is becoming a booster for sunscreen : " Its chemical structure is capable of absorbing part of the ionizing power of solar radiation (not to be confused with the absorption of radiation itself, which sunscreen exerts). This ionizing power is what damages the cells of our skin, causing alterations such as photoaging, the appearance of spots or fine wrinkles ." In other words, these ingredients together prevent radiation from damaging your skin, avoiding spots, dull tone, loss of firmness or wrinkles.

A trap for the sun

Vitamin C joins sunscreens as a dynamic team against the sun. Physical sunscreens bounce rays, chemical sunscreens convert radiation into heat, and vitamin C prevents skin oxidation by donating electrons to slow aging caused by free radicals. It's the perfect combination of anti-aging and anti-sun action!

How to use vitamin C in summer?

We can use it at night, which will promote nighttime skin regeneration, but above all, it's best to use it during the day, when it offers the most protection and support from sunscreen. "It's important to emphasize that it's always a complement, but never a substitute. SPF is necessary, in good quantities to cover the skin properly, and we should reapply it regularly," concludes our expert Daniel Jiménez.
